70th Anniversary of the end of the Berlin Blockade
The Royal British Legion will be marking the 70th Anniversary of the end of the Berlin Blockade by holding an event on Sunday 12th May at Imperial War Museum Duxford for Youth groups, Veterans and guests. The event will include an interactive activities morning as well as a lunch reception to honour the veterans service and heroism.
The morning will include a flight simulator for guests to take off/land a plane over Berlin, a VR session of the Lancaster Bomber 360 experience of Berlin Blitz and the opportunity to explore the museum and its numerous aircraft, many of which are of significance to the Berlin Airlift. There will also be a Lunch Reception and the chance to view the concurrent commemoration in Berlin at Tempelhof Airport.

Berlin Blockade 70th Anniversary The Berlin Blockade (24 June 1948–12 May 1949) was one of the first major international crises of the Cold War. At one minute after midnight on 12 May 1949, the Soviets lifted their barricades and restored access to West Berlin. A British convoy immediately drove through, and the first train from the West reached Berlin at 5:32 that morning. The Royal British Legion will be organising an event at the IWM Duxford on Sunday 12 May 2019 to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of the Berlin Blockade. Our event, which we encourage youth groups to attend, will include a number of activities as well as provide an opportunity for groups to meet veterans and hear their stories. There will also be an opportunity to view concurrent events running in Berlin to mark the 70th Anniversary. Further information and timings will be sent out towards the end of April.
